Glad to see you here.
I’m Liza, the Builder of the Home.
Beneath all the complicated thoughts of life, I carry art that is about imagination.
In my drawings everyone sees their own truth. I see it as an honest, playful leap into this serious reality.
What do you see?
Determinations of the Burla World
The Burla Creature
The Creature is an independent soul, burdened with its own troubles.
Creatures are fine with our existence. They just don’t take much interest in us, humans, I can say.
The Builder
I’m the Builder, I help Burla Creatures settle down in this world.
Don’t get me wrong – I didn’t create them, they simply came into this Universe through the paper I happened to have at that moment.
The Home
The place where all the Creatures live. You can meet their footprints in the world — a portrait on Natasha’s shoulder, a mural on a wall in Lisbon, or childhood photos of some of them that I keep in my drawer. But their true souls live at Home.
Why am I doing that
Because it feels right.
Turkey problem
When I was a teenager, I was left at my grandma’s house for a summer in the village. I remember how dust was flying in the rays of sun in my room, how funny it smelled... and God only knows how bored I was while observing all of these pictures! No internet access, three national TV channels, and a teenage body full of energy.
In that dusty room, I found a smelly old drawing album with yellowed pages and raised my first creatures. I imagined stories behind each and, eventually, without my control, they came alive.
After grandmother’s house, boring university lectures filled my daily schedule. So Creatures multiplied every day — on scraps of paper, in notebooks, inside my head. They grew inside my chest until I couldn’t hold them anymore. They were tired of hiding — they bit from the inside out, and I felt I was exploding.
So I set them free! I introduced Creatures to people... and people smiled. They were surprised. Some were sad. They guessed what that strange line meant, were surprised what it meant for me. But no one was afraid to appear a little unserious.
Everybody was saying — obviously! It is it! And this “it” for everybody was different. Looking at my pictures, they were so honest.
In everyday life, we are so serious, in love with our problems. Like turkeys. Sometimes I think our whole personality is built on this complicated face we choose for work, family, conversations about philosophy. Where is the real us?
I create art that doesn’t ask you to pretend. Feel free to guess, project something of yours, explore. Live your turkey alter ego and meet the Creatures — they’re glad you came.
